Saturday Evening Photography Projection at G+ SCREENING

It all started with photographers Lee Ka-sing and Holly Lee's love, aspiration and nostalgia for their old days of running slide shows for photographer friends and acquaintances. Later, having become gallery owners as well, the Lees dreamed of putting together a weekly series of projections showcasing great, international photography. In 2006, their gallery moved to a new and larger location and an extra space was created specifically (and which was suitable) to run photo projections (formerly slide shows) for an intimate group of people who breathe through photography and moving images. The Lees decided to run the projections every Saturday and to call it Saturday Evening Photography Projection. The program was begun during the 2007 CONTACT photography festival. Since then, it has remained an on-going program hosted by INDEXG.

The projection project aims to introduce great photography and the artists who create the work to an audience in Canada. Each projection will run between 25-40 minutes and after each projection, an intimate and relaxed conversation about the work, the artists or photography in general will take place (including a Q & A session). Modeled after the casual and intimate slide slows that many artists and photographers produce to show their work to friends and colleagues, the projection hopes to serve as a springboard for community in Toronto and elsewhere. The projection program is open to the public and admission is free. This program is curated by invited guest curators. Currently, a continuing series of extraordinary photography projections has been curated and organized by photographer/ writer/ poet Robert Black.
