"In response to my concern about our materialized and destructive era, I concentrate on nature and “primitive” civilizations like Aztecs and Mayas. Concepts took from personal experiences based on places; cultures, history, legends, mythologies and ancestral knowledge as well as iconography are assimilated through watercolour, oil, acrylic and mixed media. These concepts represent our vulnerability and transcendental role in this world. Overlapped figures bring a 3D illusion depicting time passing and therefore, the infinite.
The viewer is invited to explore the painting while letting their subconscious and imagination work with no boundaries. Organic shapes, creatures and natural patterns are some of the images that are in my work and can be read in different ways. How ever every figure is connected by the minimum line or shape. A microscopic illusion can transport the viewer into a universe of life and death."
Jesus Mora a Mexican-Canadian artist was born in 1971 in a suburb near Mexico City. He comes from a family of craftsmen, carpenters, blacksmiths and artists. In 1995 he studied drawing and painting in “Casa de la Cultura de Chapultepec” and Unidad Cuahutemoc, Mexico. During a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico he got involve with Antonio Mandarin who taught him the technique to make “alebrijes” wood sculpture. Two years later he moved to Toronto, Canada and started his studies in Toronto School of Art and Ontario College of Art and Design. In 2002 he experienced 8 months in Florence, Italy where he did extend his knowledge in sculpture an art history. For the past few years he has participated in several art projects, festivals exhibitions and workshops. Currently he participates in a Latino Canadian Cultural Association (LCCA) and Red Pepper Spectacle Arts as part of the team work. His work is expressed through painting, photograph, video, sculpture and performance and has been exhibited in Canada, Mexico, Italy and Germany. |
