These photographs are part of the “Altitude” series, taken over the last seven years.
I use several different cameras, most commonly the toy Lomo camera (mass produced in the former Soviet Union), but also using a Leica rangefinder camera and a modern digital camera. I enjoy using unusual lenses, filters and coloured flash, and often cross-process film to exaggerate the colour. I look for the imperfections they add to the finished piece. I do not want a “perfect photograph”, but prefer to leave some ambiguity in the image.
In both “Going Up” and “The Glory”, the aircraft window becomes a graphic framing device, emphasizing the separation between the interior and exterior, and underscoring the surreality of flight.
