"Seeds", originally is a series of pigment and acrylic paintings on canvas, evolved from "Herbarium”. Noriko Saito's paintings radiate a quiet strength. Her use of multi-layered colours evokes subtle emotions as well as the natural environment. The series primarily focuses on the life cycle of seeds and the latent forces of life contained within them. A seed is both the beginning and end of a life cycle. Seed l, depicting small seeds floating in space, is a metaphor for migration.

Noriko Saito was born in Japan. Having studied cultural history, geography, anthropology and art in Japan and Germany, she went on to receive her Master of Arts at UdK Berlin (The Berlin University of the Arts). She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Berlin, Basel, Cologne, Kyoto, Munich, Tokyo, Toronto, Verona and Vienna. From 1994 to 1996 she was Artist-in-Residence of the Art Foundation PRO ARTE in Ulm, Germany, while in 1995 she was a lecturer at the University of Ulm. Noriko Saito has received the Canada’s Year of Asia Pacific Grant, the Japan Art Fund Grant and the Yokohama Women’s Forum Grant. Her work is included in numerous public and private collections.
